If you liked "Escape from Alcatraz", this story is even more incredible, but true!
In 1946, the war in the Pacific had been over for less than a year. Hundreds of U.S. Marines on furlough from Japan and the Philippines were stationed in Golden Gate Park, San Francisco, Alcatraz Island, home to Alcatraz prison, lay less than a mile away in San Francisco Bay.
Bernard Paul Coy was a Kentucky bank robber sentenced to Alcatraz for 27 years. Early in his incarceration at Alcatraz, Coy had made up his mind to escape. By May 1946, he had served 7 years of his sentencem and after losing his "good time" for a fight, parole was a dim prospect.
Coy had studied details about the Alcatraz routines and procedures for years.
↓ more ↓All of the keys and guns at Alcatraz were keep in armories called "gun galleries" on the second tier of the main cell house. Coy realized that by taking control of a gun gallery, he could easily command the whole prison.
On May 2, 1946, Coy executed his daring plan with five accomplices. What happens next is a tale of mishap, murder, and justice.
The drama of the story is intensified by the roles played by colorful characters who appear in later history. The Governor of California at the time of the rebellion was Earl Warren, the same Warren who presided over the Warren Commission investigation of the JFK assassination. Also, Robert Stroud, "The Birdman of Alcatraz", played a central role in this drama.
There is much more to this story. We hope you will enjoy the CD. Look forward to more exciting CD products in the coming months. Thank you from ACTORS SCENE UNSEEN (www.actorssceneunseen.com).
