If Nine Inch Nails was rammed up U2's ass... and got stuck... Amazingly memorable hard rock songs touched with darkness and light.
Bio / Background
Having made his mark in several New York City rock and industrial bands, as well as collaborations with Projekt artist Voltaire, Revue Noir and former October Project singer Mary Fahl, Kerry Smith now brings his unique perspective on the sonic arts to the forefront.
Kerry has a background in writing professionally in many different styles (he has written music for several hundred TV & radio commercials), but finds his own muse leading him to a compelling synthesis of acoustic, rock, and "electronic" styles.
Joined by Stephen Baker (keyboard), Eric Reed (drums), Aaron Trigg (guitar), and Fred Ditman (bass), Anathema Device has been tearing up and down the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic states.
Kerry says: "I know what we do will probably be labeled 'industrial' or 'goth' by the masses, even though we break past those labels.
I wish we could avoid it.
I realize that we can't.
We will be lumped in with the likes of other well-known bands...
It's not really a bad place to be.
↓ more ↓Those artist's themselves defy labeling in the struggle to make their voice ring true.
So do we.
We do not limit ourselves to a set songwriting format.
We will not deny ourselves flavours that may seem "unorthodox", but that we genuinely hear.
We will not use such flavours as a "gimmick" or hype.
The sound is the finality of all it's parts, not made distinctive solely by the addition of a distorted vacuum cleaner.
Where the sounds come from doesn't matter.
What matters is that they contribute to the vision of the whole."
