A mellow, moody collection rooted in classic soul and textured with flourishes of folk and rock. Bitter Suite is your introduction to a singer-songwriter with a singular voice.
Bio / Background
Amy LaCour is a contemporary musician with classic influences. Her music is rooted in soul and singer-songwriter traditions while drawing loosely from modern rock and jazz. A child of an African American father and a Portuguese mother, Amy considers it her birthright to blur genre lines. “In order to remain inspired, I have to listen to all types of music," says Amy. "And everything that I hear influences me in some way. Sticking to one genre is far too creatively limiting.”
Her debut EP, Bitter Suite¸ powerfully illustrates the wide range of Amy’s musical tastes. Recorded and produced by Richard Barron in Los Angeles' Atwater Village, Bitter Suite is built on an acoustic trio recorded live – Curt Bisquera on drums, Reggie Hamilton on bass, Amy on Piano. Percussionist Debra Dobkin, and guitarists Randy Jacobs and James Harrah followed, helping to create a moody, textural universe for Amy’s compelling songs of heartache and truth-telling.
↓ more ↓One thing is clear, Amy LaCour, is not a musician who will be easily pinned down. “I want to continue in the vein of Bitter Suite and make a full-length, moody soul/rock record," she says. "I’d also like to record a singer/songwriter record with country influences, and a “rootsy” acoustic record- maybe even a big ol’ ostentatious pop record with full orchestration and brass..."
For now, we’ll start with Bitter Suite. And what a sweet start that is. Rest assured, there will be more to come.
