BIOGRAPHY
She’s nothing you’ve ever heard, but still somehow familiar. With intense vocals and driving instrumentals, her songs weave life into lyrics in a unique but relatable way. Songs like "Barely Breathing" and "Save Me" chronicle break-ups and fall-downs and prayers for change, which escalate into hopeful tales of life unhindered by circumstance in songs like "There is Nothing Better" and "Free." With a voice reminiscent of Jennifer Knapp and Patty Griffin and musical stylings similar to Sarah McLachlan and Sixpence None the Richer, Amy Courts' sound collectively offers something recognizable but wholly refreshing and unique. Honest and vulnerable, relevant and insightful, her songs set real life to music.
A native of Denver, Colorado, Amy grew up singing in school and church choirs and with her family. But it wasn’t until her freshman year in college that she began playing guitar and taking songwriting seriously.
↓ more ↓It began as an effort to explain and sometimes escape life, but over the years developed one of contemplation and meditation. What she delivers lyrically and musically is the culmination of lessons learned and tension acknowledged though not always appeased. Sometimes they’re songs about Jesus, sometimes they’re about life in general. But for her, they are all born from the same passion and follow the same desire to be real and relatable.
On stage, Amy is a powerhouse of vulnerability and passion. Seeing every live show as an opportunity to escape and inspire, she mesmerizes audiences, inviting them to escape with her. Whether with a full band or on her own with an acoustic guitar, her listeners are captive to the sound. The honesty of such a performance has generated accolades from everyone from college crowds to youth conference leaders to some of Nashville’s most renowned publishers and producers. She has donned her guitar and railed vocally across the mid-west, including the legendary Red Rocks Amphitheater in the foothills of Colorado’s Rocky Mountains, sharing stages with the likes of Michael Tait, Rustin Smith, Jonell Mosser, Ashley Cleveland and Ballydowse.
For Amy, patience has proven a virtue. After a number of failed attempts to record and distribute demos and ep's, she finally found a producer to match her style and goals in celebrated studio musician Charles Judge, best known for his work with Faith Hill, Rascal Flatts, Enrique Iglesias, and Tracey Chapman. Together, they have spent the last eight months in the studio working on a seven-song EP released independently on May 26, 2006. Aside from promotional and sales efforts, she's spending her nights live on Nashville and regional southeast stages, and in living rooms writing with some of the industry’s favorite artists. Indeed, at this point, it’s only a matter of time before Amy Courts becomes a household name.
