This extended play single is mix of 70s style rock and R&B, sung in his unique passionate way.
Bio / Background
I imagine that anyone with a fair knowledge of rock music history knows that Alan Merrill wrote and sang the first version of "I Love Rock N Roll" in 1975, with his band the Arrows. This extended play 2007 "I love rock n roll" is a belated single from Alan Merrill's album "Cupid Deranged," a re-recording of the Arrows classic, and is the first release of his full solo version, including the fanfare introduction.
Drums and bass are by Peter Phipps (ex- XTC, Glitter Band, Eurythmics) and Dave Glover (ex- Brian Conolly's Sweet) respectively.
The single also contains never before released Alan Merrill solo tracks as well, such as the first ever recorded versions of Van Morrison's "If you rock me" and Sir Mack Rice's "The other side of town." The EP includes a poignant loose version of Ron Wood's "Breathe on me," sung as a vocal duet by Alan Merrill and Darrel Bath, and recorded in Switzerland.
↓ more ↓This track is an excellent out-take from Kurious Kurt and the ZugZug Club's 2007 Ron Wood tribute album release, titled "We've got our own best of to do." This track features Darrel Bath on guitar, Wayne Sheehy on drums, Kurious Kurt on guitar, Nikki Sudden on acoustic guitar, Joe Schwach on guitar, and Alan Merrill on bass.
As usual with Merrill, there are surprise guests of note, like Felix Cavaliere, Mack Rice, Billie Ray Martin, Joel Diamond, and Muzz Skillings doing cameos on these songs.
All in all a fine summer mood single!
