Hearth Light
Well, now that you are feeling all relaxed and warm and fuzzy from listening to Altar Wind, Shadow Wood and Skye Boat, it's time to move things in a perky-er direction. Hearth Light, is the newest release by George & Anwyn Leverett.
By request this one is a little more up-beat. Celtic harp, wire harp, hammered dulcimer, penny whistle, guitar, hurdy gurdy, recorders and bowed psaltery are the featured instruments. It captures the romance of a simpler time, of hearth and home, spinning and weaving, rosy apples and ripe corn, as lazy as a stroll down a warm Irish country lane and as cheery as a dancing candle flame. Refreshingly interesting arrangements of Irish and Scottish traditional jigs and reels with several originals, such as "Busy Threads", and "La Priel's Pavane" using recorders, harp, wire harp and bhrodon these two have a medieval flavor.
The three vocals are on the subject of spinning and weaving, one of Anwyn's passions.
↓ more ↓"Fine Linen for You" is the whimsical day dream of a young bride who will spin
and weave fine linen for her new husband, if she ever gets the equipment! "Sweet Becky at the Loom" is a nostalgic and romantic view of a young maiden expertly performing her
weaving duties, appreciated by an admiring young man.
"The Three Fates" is an original, with words by Anwyn and music by George. While on a trip to Wales, Anwyn was
moved by statues of the Three Fates (from Greek mythology) in a castle. They were spinning, measuring and cutting the thread of men's life. "It's a dark mysterious image
that I have been carrying around with me for 21 years!" To leave you feeling contented, the CD leaves with two mellow songs, "Both Sides the Tweed" (an instrumental
rendition of the moving song lamenting the conflict between England and Scotland during the Jacobite revolution & lastly The Fairy Queen--- aahhh.
BIO
George & Anwyn Leverett
Ancient, Traditional & Contemporary Celtic Music
2007 marks the 15th anniversary of the acclaimed Celtic music duo, George & Anwyn Leverett. They have played such diverse venues as Celtic and Blue Grass festivals, Nevada casinos, pubs, fairs, school assemblies and sold-out concerts. They performed the "Green Show" of the Lake Tahoe Shakespeare Festival for seven years, before moving to Oregon.
They have a passion for Irish and Scottish music that proclaims itself with each performance. Ancient, traditional and contemporary Celtic music comes to life with their wide variety of old world instruments. Anwyn and George play Irish fiddle, cittern, guitar, mandolin, hurdy-gurdy, zither, hammer dulcimer, bowed psaltery, penny whistle & recorder but George's main instrument is the beautiful self-made 36 string "Lady Harp" They blend a kaleidoscope of sounds and textures that makes no two songs sound the same.
George hand-built all the old-world instruments used on their recordings for the best possible tone and authenticity. The combination of these rare, ancient instruments creates a beautiful ethereal sound that is no longer available in modern music.
Their CDs, Skye Boat, Songs from Shadow Wood, Altar Wind and Christmas Around the Hearth have sold over 50,000 copies. Relaxation and gentle peace are the keywords to describe this collection of CDs. Songs from Shadow Wood has a "forest feel", Altar Wind is "open and airy and reflective". Skye Boat has an "ocean feel".
They are proud to announce the release of their newest CD Hearth Light. By request this one moves into the more upbeat style of Celtic Music, featuring some jigs
and reels played on Celtic harp and hammered dulcimer. This CD captures the romance of a simpler time, of "hearth and home", spinning and weaving, rosy apples and ripe corn. Mostly instrumental with three soft vocals. The featured vocal is an original by George & Anwyn Leverett called The Three Fates, inspired by statues of the Three fates that Anwyn came across in a castle in Wales.
George & Anwyn Leverett's music is played on Celtic music radio shows across the US, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Russia and Brazil. For more information visit their web site at aroundthehearth.com For information on hand built old world instruments by George Leverett go to altarwind.com
