Bio / Background
ABOUT YEWANDE
Yewande Adebayo was born in the former war-torn city of Monrovia, Liberia. She migrated with her family to the United States a few months shy of the civil war that would devastate the country to present. She conceptualized the idea of the Music for Social Change Project in hopes of one day also being a catalyst for change in her homeland. Years later, she is making it happen.
Like Yewande's persona, this EP offers an ecclectic mix of African pop, jazz, R&B, reggae, light rock, and classical music. She is poised to be in the company of artists like Zap Mama, Angelique Kidjo, Les Nubians, and Norah Jones with whom she often yields comparison. Past venues have included the NJ Performing Arts Center for the JP Morgan Chase Sounds of the City Music Summer Stage. She is a rising star on fire for a noble cause.
