Whiting's clear edge comes not from lack of polish, but from an intuitive grasp of exactly when to obsess and when to let go.

“Louis Armstrong once said, ‘There are two kinds of music, the good and the bad, I play the good kind.’ I have always struggled with the question of what kind of music I play. I stumble through a wretched description that comes nowhere close to what I really mean. I think that I am rooted in the folk genre. I know I play acoustic music. I know I was trained classically and that I try to maintain some semblance of a classical repertoire. But past that mediocre description, I really don’t know. I write music. I am completely lost. I love with every ounce of my being. I am hurt, happy, lonely, loved, self-conscious, and nervous. And to wrap that all into a song that gives even a hint of this mess, that is what I breathe for.” -AW
