Out of Balance is a brilliant and spirited record, determined and compelling in the beautiful-noise traditions of Fairport Convention and Soundgarden. Dubbed a supernova in the adult alternative category, this Cincinnati-based group of highly accomplished musicians contributes confirmed elements of world culture, with as many whiffs of Native American percussion as straight-up Allman Brothers. Acumen avoids multiple-personality disorder in favor of sheer real-deal rock & roll range, with geysers of electric and rhythm guitar, volleying between two fine vocalists, Cyndy Smyth and Dimitrious James. Far from being a stingy record, the title cut, "Gypsy" and "World Gone Mad" embrace a breadth of addictive and textured riffs that never intrude on the fine singing.
