Bio / Background
"Nice Girl" is the second album to be released by Los Angeles based songwriter, Mary Beth Abella. Award winning singer songwriter Mary Beth Abella is the recipient of the Lionel Richie 2005 Songwriting Scholarship at UCLA, finalist in the Song of the Year contest, and a nominee of Westword Magazine's Best of Denver 2003 in the Singer Songwriter category. Mary Beth has been selected to perform in various showcases and festivals including ROCKRGRL Music Conference in Seattle and the Acoustic Live Music Showcase in LA. Her debut album, "What Happened to the Girls?" was released in 2002 as a collection of 12 of her favorite, original songs and was produced by her multi-instrumentalist brother, John Abella. The album was also named one of the best releases of 2002 by both the Denver Daily News and Westword Magazine and one of her songs, "Leave You Behind" was featured on MTV Real World and Road Rules episodes. One of her songs from "Nice Girl" was used in the indie feature, "Go Fish.

A long time social activist, the artist has produced numerous shows featuring female artists, including the benefit, "Girls Gone Kerry," with Michelle Shocked as emcee, and was also the Founder of Colorado Women in Music, a coalition whose goal was to provide a web of support to local women in the music industry. Abella has opened for Heart, Mates of State, Juliana Hatfield and Alana Davis. She has toured the country and performed in Denver, San Francisco, Seattle, Portland, Las Vegas, Chicago, Washington D.C. and Delaware as well as her hometown of Los Angeles.
